Homeland Museum of Danilovgrad is situated in building that was meant to be court for Prince Nicholas and his family with Danilovgrad as the new capital of Montenegro. Court was built in 19th century, or to be more precise it was 1873. Unfortunately, idea of the new capital was never realized. Building was adapted to be Teacher’s School at the end of 19th century. After World War II building changed it function again, now serving for Gymnasium Petar I Petrovic Njegos until 1979. In the same year, it was adapted again, this time for needs of a newly established museum of Danilovgrad (museum was originally established in 1959).

Homeland Museum of Danilovgrad is complex type of museum. Museum consists of twelve collection: archaeological, numismatic, weapons, archive (divided in old original documents and old newspaper), ethnographic, old books, photographic, other artifacts, awards, cartographic, works of art.

One specific room is adapted for reconstructed interior of basilica from Martinici Hillfort, from 9th century (Pre-Romanesque period).
